Workshop in France (Réunion) on Digital Inclusion for Island Youth

Content

On June 11, 2023, in Saint-Denis, Réunion Island, Le cœur des Mascareignes held a youth-centered event to localize digital finance lessons from the Benalmádena training. The workshop focused on the needs of young people in island communities with limited access to financial education.

Finance Tools for Remote Realities

The discussion included challenges such as internet access, lack of local banking options, and the digital divide. Youth explored how to adapt modern digital finance tools to the island context.

Workshop Goals

  • Promote financial inclusion in isolated and underserved communities.

  • Build local knowledge of mobile banking and online payments.

  • Empower island youth to advocate for equal access to financial tools.

Key Activities

  • Island Hack – Youth brainstormed low-data, locally adapted financial literacy campaigns.

  • Story Sharing – Participants shared their families’ experiences with savings, banking, and economic resilience.

  • App Review – Comparison of mobile banking apps for accessibility and safety.

Participant Reflections

“Being on an island often means being left out. This showed me how we can still participate in the digital economy.”

Outputs and Legacy

A youth-led awareness video was created and shared through local schools and NGOs across Réunion.
