After completing the training course "Code for Change: Empowering Young Changemakers through Programming" in Benalmádena, Spain, participants from the Czech national team organized a local
workshop in Brno. The event was hosted at a community center and brought together ten professionals working with underrepresented youth across the region. The aim was to demonstrate how even basic coding can be a practical and empowering tool in youth development and civic life.
Workshop Goals
-
Promote coding as a democratic and accessible skill for youth work.
-
Encourage civic participation through open-source and digital tools.
Key Activities
Participants explored basic programming concepts through interactive tasks and were introduced to tools like GitHub and visual coding games. They also discussed how to integrate digital tools into their work—for example, by building websites for local projects or using gamified platforms to teach critical thinking.
Participant Reflections
“We are not just using digital tools — we’re shaping them for our communities.”
Outputs and Legacy
The group began working on a collaborative youth data map of public spaces in Brno. Several attendees expressed plans to apply for Erasmus+ projects focused on digital inclusion and innovation in youth work.
