Code & Community: Tech for Inclusion in Berlin

Content

In Berlin, Germany, Copernicus Berlin e.V. held a local follow-up to the “Code for Change” training, focusing on how coding can support community-based innovation. The event brought together young people, digital educators, and NGO staff to explore ways technology can be used to promote inclusion, accessibility, and youth-led problem solving.

Workshop Goals

  • Highlight how programming can support civic participation.

  • Offer tools for integrating tech into social projects.

Key Activities Participants used case studies from the training in Benalmádena to design inclusive tech prototypes. Small teams created concept apps for mental health, eco-lifestyles, and language accessibility.

Participant Reflections

“I didn’t think of coding as a way to help people before. Now I see it as a tool for fairness.”

Outputs and Legacy Participants pitched their app ideas to local mentors. Some prototypes will be developed further through Copernicus Berlin’s digital accelerator program.
