Debrecen Connects: Dialogue to Prevent Radicalisation

Content

After participating in the Erasmus+ training in Georgia, a youth worker from Hungary organized a follow-up workshop on 6 April 2025 at their university in Debrecen. The event, inspired by the training content, brought together 12 students withdiverse backgrounds for a peer-led dialogue on preventing radicalisation and extremism.

Workshop Goals

  • Raise awareness of radicalization triggers.

  • Strengthen empathy-based dialogue skills.

  • Build trust among youth through lived experiences.

Key Activities

  • Small group discussions based on lived experiences.

  • Topic facilitation using key points learned from Erasmus+ in Georgia.

  • Reflection round on community responsibility.

Participant Reflections

“It was inspiring to see young people agree in major points and align opinions through discussion and respectful debate.”

One participant shared that the open format allowed them to recognize real-life signs of exclusion and extremism they had previously ignored. Several expressed appreciation for the space to speak freely and connect on shared concerns.

Outputs
Participants completed a feedback round highlighting how much they learned from peer experiences. The host youth worker is now compiling insights to create a simple “Discussion Guide on Radicalisation Prevention” for future university clubs and youth workshops.
