Beach Guardians: Fostering Environmental Awareness and Democratic Participation

Erasmus+ Training Course in Paola, Italy

June 5-12, 2024

From June 6 to June 13, 2024, Paola, Italy, hosted the Erasmus+ training course “Beach Guardians: Fostering Environmental Awareness and Democratic Participation.” This program engaged youth workers in practical environmental activities focused on beach conservation, addressing the threats faced by coastal ecosystems. Participants explored the connection between conservation efforts and EU democratic values such as civic participation and community engagement, equipping them with hands-on tools to involve young people in environmental stewardship.

The course empowered youth workers to facilitate local environmental action through beach clean-ups and conservation activities. Educational workshops raised awareness about pollution's impact on marine ecosystems, while creative activities like beach art installations engaged young people in promoting conservation messages. Participants also took part in citizen science projects and received training in digital advocacy, ultimately developing personal and community-based action plans inspired by their experiences during the training.
