Constructing the Present from Moments in the Past

Constructing the Present from Moments in the Past

Erasmus+ Training Course in Berlin, Germany

February 28 - March 8, 2023

From March 1 to March 9, 2023, participants in Berlin, Germany, engaged in the project “Constructing the Present from Moments in the Past,” which delved into the legacy of European dictatorships after 1945. This initiative provided youth workers with a comprehensive exploration of authoritarian regimes in post-war Europe, examining political violence, propaganda, and aspects of everyday life such as sports, music, and youth culture. The project facilitated a deeper understanding of life under dictatorship and encouraged comparisons between past experiences and present realities.

Through discussions on resistance, democracy, human rights, peace, and environmental protection, the program aimed to strengthen youth workers' competencies in historical-political education. Participants reflected on historical experiences to draw parallels with contemporary political developments and fostered democratic values, tolerance, and respect for human rights among youth. By employing interactive non-formal learning methods, they enhanced their capacity to address populist narratives and promote democratic awareness effectively.
